The GFSI mission statement is to “Provide continuous improvement in food safety management systems to ensure confidence in the delivery of safe food to consumers worldwide.” More information relating to GFSI and benchmarked certification schemes can be found here: http://www.mygfsi.com/

British Retail Consortium (BRC) Audits

BRC Global Standard for Food Safety

The BRC Global Standard for Food Safety, developed by retailers, was the first Standard in the world to be approved by the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) benchmarking committee. Because the BRC Global Standards are meticulous and thorough, but also easy to follow and to comprehend, they are the most widely used of the GFSI standards, boasting more than 16,000 certified organizations throughout the world.

The BRC Standard places a strong emphasis on management commitment and a detailed HACCP Program as the basis of a successful food safety program. Furthermore, it emphasizes the importance on the overall commitment for quality programs and their execution. The Standard’s requirements are clearly defined and documented which provides consistent interpretation by the auditors and implementation by the audited facilities. This consistency promotes confidence in the certification process as a whole. For information on the British Retail Consortium (BRC), visit: www.brcglobalstandards.com.

BRC Global Standard for Storage and Distribution

The BRC Global Standard was introduced in 2006 to bridge the gap between food manufacturers and retailers and foodservice companies. The Global Standard for Storage and Distribution is a leading certification scheme which enables companies providing storage, wholesale and distribution services to gain certification against a global recognized scheme. Additional information relating to BRC Global Standard for Storage and Distribution may be found at the BRC website: www.brcglobalstandards.com.

Safe Quality Food (SQF) Certification Audit

The Safe Quality Food (SQF) program was developed to provide retailers and foodservice providers confidence in their supply chain’s food safety management systems. The SQF certification scheme strives to provide evidence that a robust, validated food safety system is implemented at the facility. The SQF program is management by the Safe Quality Food Institute whose mission is to: “To deliver consistent, globally recognized food safety and quality certification programs based on sound scientific principles, consistently applied across all industry sectors, and valued by all stakeholders.” Current SQF certification audits are performed against SQF Code, edition 7.1.
