Donation Honors Dr. Gary and Kay Smith, and Helps Prepare Future Generations of Food and Agriculture Students
San Antonio,TX—May 8, 2017 – Food Safety Net Services (FSNS), a leader in the microbial, chemical testing, and auditing of food and nutraceutical products announced its donation of $175,000 to Colorado State University’s (CSU) Department of Animal Sciences facilities campaign.
The donation was given in honor of Dr. Gary Smith and his late wife, Kay. Dr Smith is a world-renowned expert in meat science and food safety, a University Distinguished Professor Emeritus, and a visiting professor of animal sciences. FSNS has worked closely on food safety projects with CSU and Dr. Smith for over 20 years.
The donation will benefit the renovation of the Animal Sciences Building, where CSU has designated the “Food Safety Net Services Microbiology Laboratory” on the second floor. There will also be a visiting scientist office sponsored by FSNS and Dr. Smith in the future – it will be called the “Gary C. Smith and Food Safety Net Services Visiting Scientist Office.”
“We are proud to support Dr. Smith, my mentor for 40 years, and the CSU Animal Science Department,” said John Bellinger, CEO of FSNS. “We know the funds will provide new opportunities for future generations of students as they prepare for careers in the food industry.”
