Woiwode Brings Expertise in Livestock Behavior, Handling and Welfare to FSNS Livestock Arm
San Antonio, TX—January 23, 2017—Food Safety Net Services Certification & Audit (FSNS C&A) today announced the appointment of Ruth Woiwode, PhD, as Manager of Livestock Audit Services. FSNS C&A, the industry leader in food safety services, welcomes Dr. Woiwode where she will work toward expanding the company’s on-farm audit services.
Dr. Woiwode, who comes to FSNS C&A after working as a post-doctoral research scientist at New Mexico State University, earned her PhD in Animal Science from Colorado State University in 2015 under graduate advisor Dr. Temple Grandin. She focused her doctoral research on behavior and handling of feedlot cattle, industry compliance with the Beef Quality Assurance (BQA) feedlot assessment for cattle handling, and effects of initial handling on performance of fed cattle. Dr. Woiwode earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Animal Sciences from CSU as well.
In her new role with FSNS C&A, Dr. Woiwode will conduct assessments of livestock certification programs, conduct audits and trainings, and work with producer groups to implement assessment and certification programs within the industry.

Dr. Woiwode serves on the Animal Welfare Advisory Committee for the North American Meat Institute, the Animal Care Advisory Committee for the National Cattle Feeders Association, and the Feedlot Curriculum Development Committee for the Professional Animal Auditor Certification Organization (PAACO). Dr. Woiwode also provides editorial review for the American Sheep Industry Foundation’s Sheep Care Guide.
